The Series — Blogs That Get Attention

Most company blogs? Entirely forgettable. They talk about themselves instead of what their audience cares about. This four-part series will show you how to avoid that, and instead, teach you how to plan, write, and publish blogs that people actually want to read.

Last time we talked about the importance of getting your killer blog actually found. Let’s move on to the next step.

Step 3 — Get Some Action!

So you’ve created a blog with great content and we’ve made sure it gets noticed. And…

They read it.

They nod their heads.

They think, “That was really interesting.”

And then? They leave.

Window shoppers. Tire kickers. No conversation. No connection. No next step. And that is why so many good blogs fail to deliver results. There’s no call to action.

Every blog needs a call to action. Every single one. If you don’t tell your reader what to do next, they won’t do anything. Not because they’re lazy or not interested. You just didn’t make it clear what you wanted them to do.

So what do you want them to do? Have you asked yourself that question before you consider your blog complete? You’re not sure? Well, let me give you some ideas.

  • Download a resource
  • Subscribe to your newsletter
  • View a case study
  • Watch a video
  • Register for a webinar
  • Read a related blog post or article
  • Follow you on LinkedIn
  • Schedule a call

Your call to action can serve different purposes. Some move them directly towards a sale. Others simply keep them engaged. Both are valuable.

What style of call to action of call to action should I use, you ask? Yes, there’s more than one. It can be a simple line like “Click here to learn more.” Nothing wrong with that. But also consider a visual call to action – a banner, or button, or callout box. Something that really catches the reader’s attention. You can create a small library of reusable graphics for each call to action and use them over and over.

Think of your call to action as a bridge. It should naturally take someone from “This is interesting” to “I want more!” The call to action is the “I want more!”

It turns passive readers into engaged leads.

It turns great content into great opportunities.

So, next time you publish something, don’t just hit ‘publish.’

Ask for action.
